A comprehensive review of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywodywork exam for Therapeutic Massage (NCETM).  A fast paced overview of anatomy and physiology, scope of practice, laws and regulations.  Bring your notes/old textbooks/review books and remember what you think you forgot.  Practice questions and handouts provided.

lease Note:  This class is focused on the NCBTM.  This class will not cover Oriental Medicine required for the NCBTMB.  Either the NCBTM and NCBTMB are acceptable for Maryland Licensing.

Basic Sports Massage for Athletic Events (14 CEs)
Allegany College of Maryland Course CHE-636

Spring 2012 (Saturday & Sunday)

This is a class for massage therapists, occupational therapists and physical therapists who are interested in expanding their practice to work successfully with athletes. The focus of the class will be to provide the skills necessary to give safe and appropriate massages to athletes participating in sporting events. Much of what is taught can also be used in the practitioner’s private practice. You will learn the physiological goals and techniques to use for pre-event, inter-event and post-event massages. The course covers both upper and lower body sports. Cramp release techniques, thermal injuries, safe practices, ethics, and medical referral considerations are also included.  This class will fulfill half of the CEU requirements for membership in the Maryland Professional Sports Massage Team and/or the National Capital Region Sports Massage Team. It will include lecture and hands-on practice. Expect two busy days of learning in a high-energy environment. Wear or bring shorts and T-shirts.  Bring linens and lubricant. 14 NCBTMB hours for massage therapists, approved for 14 hours by MD PT Board.

Introduction to Sports Massage

Gain the skills and knowledge to become an effective sports massage therapist. Explore the physiological basis for sports massage and learn common sports massage techniques. Discuss the background and training required. CEUs awarded. $90 includes $10 fee.

Note: Bring a fitted sheet and wear or bring shorts. Approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork for 7 CE contact hours and the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for 0.7 CEUs. Approved by the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice for a maximum of four hours for role related activities.
